Great Tips to Reduce the Chances of an Auto Accident

Nobody wakes up in the morning planning to get in an auto accident, but everyday 1,000s of them occur across the nation. While it may be dang near impossible to to prevent all accidents from occurring, as they won't all be your fault, you can do your best by following these simple tips to reduce your chances of causing an accident.

Keep your car clutter free

One of the biggest reasons people end up causing accidents is because they are distracted by loose objects in their vehicle. Make sure to keep your car clean so that you don't find yourself trying to pick up a runaway water bottle, a stray napkin or some other sort of debris that prevents you from keeping your eyes on the road.

Don't text or talk and drive

This may seem obvious enough but sometimes it's nice to have a reminder of the dangers of texting and driving or talking on the phone and driving without the proper equipment. The text messages can wait, as can the phone calls. However, if you must use the texting and talking functions of your phone while you're driving for one reason or another be sure to utilize one of the many apps available that allow for voice command to read, write and send text messages, as well as handle phone calls hands free.

Keep up with scheduled maintenance

By keeping up with scheduled maintenance you are maintaining a safe and reliable vehicle. If the car that breaks down it may end up causing an accident due to the fact that you may be blocking traffic. Never skip factory services!

Maintain your brakes

Aside from keeping up with 30/60/90K maintenance, always be sure to pay attention to any symptoms of brake trouble that your vehicle may be having. This includes grinding noises, a soft brake pedal, strange vibrations in the brake pedal or steering wheel while slowing your vehicle or the illumination of the ABS indicator light on your dashboard.

Eyes on the road

Simply put, just keep your eyes on the road. You are at the reins of a machine that is capable of causing a lot of damage if handled incorrectly!

Do all you can to be the best possible driver.
