What is the auto body repair process?

Following an accident you will no doubt have many questions about what will happen to your vehicle in order to make it roadworthy again. Well before your car ever enters the body shop there are few steps to take to ensure that everything turns out the way it should, including your own health. The following is a quick run down of the total auto body repair process. A process that all starts with an unfortunate accident.

Auto accident occurs

Following an accident there is a lot that will happen in a short amount of time. FIrst of all make sure you and your passengers are not badly injured. Then check on the health of occupants of other vehicles involved. It's always a good idea to contact the police so you have the opportunity to file a police report.

Contact insurance

While you are still at the accident scene be sure to contact your insurance company to be sure that you comply with all of their accident reporting procedures. They may ask you to gather evidence, including photographs and witness statements.

Contact a body shop of your choice

More than likely your insurance company will suggest several body shops that they would prefer you to work with. You don't have to use any of these shops. You have the legal right to select a body shop of your choice, so do your research and find a business that will take great care of you.

Receive an estimate

After selecting a shop you will receive an estimate. You may be inclined to receive more than one estimate, which is perfectly acceptable.

Collision repairs are completed

After the estimate is received and cleared by the insurance company the repairs will be completed by the shop. How the repairs are completed will depend greatly on the type of damage your vehicle acquired.

Drive away happy

Once the repairs are completed you will receive your vehicle back in its pre-accident condition or better!
