Common Types of Auto Body Repair

A car may require auto body repair for many different reasons. While most commonly it is the result of an accident, a vehicle that has been subject to harsh weather may also need it's body repaired due to the wrath of Mother Nature. Thankfully auto body repair technology allows for just about any problem to be repaired, as long as it is taken care of by a professional collision repair technician. If your car needs any type of repair it is likely to receive one or more of the following services.

Rust Repair

Rust can take over vehicles new and old, essentially eating away at metal that makes up the car's body. If caught early enough the rust can generally be sanded away, primed and repainted. If the rust is bad enough the metal may need to be cut away and have new metal welded in place in order to restore the damaged area.

Dent Repairs

Dents are perhaps one of the most common forms of auto body damage. They can occur in both high and low speed collisions. If the paint is not damaged it is likely that paintless dent repair can be performed. If there is damage to the paint the car may require the use of body filler and a respray.

Paint Repairs & Repainting

Scratches and other paint damage can cause an otherwise great running car to look like a junker. Minor scratches can generally be buffed out. However, deep scratches may need to be filled and if a car's paint job is heavily damaged by the sun it is likely a complete repaint will be necessary.

Body Panel Replacement

In some cases it may be more financially viable to simply replace a whole body panel that has been damaged as opposed to trying to repair it. This is often the case for for fixing doors, hoods, trunk lids, bumpers and other pieces of the car that can be easily removed.

Frame Straightening

If the frame is damaged it doesn't necessarily mean the vehicle is totalled. A professional collision repair shop can conduct frame straightening to restore the vehicle back to its original specifications.
